The Fallas Experience

A Celebration of Art, Fire, and Rebirth

Every March, Valencia transforms into a living work of art. Streets fill with towering sculptures, the sky erupts in colour, and the scent of gunpowder mingles with orange blossoms.
This is Las Fallas — a UNESCO-recognised festival unlike any other in the world — where art, satire, and fire converge to celebrate creativity, community, and renewal.

Our exclusive Fallas Journey invites you to witness the festival not as a spectator, but as a participant — feeling the rhythm of the crowds, the pulse of the mascletà, and the emotion of La Cremà, when the city’s magnificent sculptures are set ablaze under the stars.

Do you know?

The origins of Las Fallas trace back to humble beginnings. Centuries ago, Valencian carpenters would clean their workshops at the end of winter, burning leftover wood and old furniture on the eve of Saint Joseph’s Day — their patron saint. These small bonfires, called parots, symbolised the burning away of darkness and the welcoming of spring’s light. As creativity flourished, these bonfires began to take shape — literally. Carpenters and artists started carving human-like figures out of wood scraps to place atop the flames. Over time, these evolved into today’s spectacular “Ninots” — towering paper-mâché sculptures that blend humour, satire, and artistry.

Each Falla is a masterpiece crafted by local art guilds (casales falleros), often taking an entire year to design and build. They depict everything from political commentary to whimsical fantasies, turning the city into an open-air art exhibition. But Fallas is not only about destruction, it’s about renewal.
The final burning, La Cremà, represents letting go of what no longer serves us, celebrating rebirth, and embracing the beauty of impermanence. Only one Ninot is spared each year — chosen by popular vote to join the permanent collection of the Museo Fallero, preserving a piece of that year’s spirit for generations to come.
